The Wonders of Florence, Italy
Italy is more than being famous for its delicious food. What really causes millions of tourists to come by is to check out all of their historical sites located mainly in Florence - the capital city of Tuscany.
Here are some of the different museums and monuments to see in Florence that describe why this city is known as the "Cradle of Renaissance".

FLORENCE'S DUOMO - SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE |
Anyone looking for a breathtaking cultural experience should visit the Florence Cathedral or Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the largest brick dome ever constructed. Inside the Florence Cathedral there aren't as many decorations as they were in historic times and many of the more valuable pieces were transferred to the Museum Opera del Duomo. Still, the imposing façade is a whole gothic experience that is worth visiting.
In order to have a better view of the dome, you can go nearby to Giotto's Bell Tower. It is a slender tower that is perfectly squared and stands nearly 48 feet tall and has 5 levels. Hexagonal panels can be found on the lower levels illustrating both art and history relating to the Genesis. Great views of Florence can be seen in the higher levels of the tower, after a staircase of 414 steps.
Just across of Giotto's Bell Tower stands one of the oldest buildings in Florence - the San Giovanni Baptistery. The real attraction of the Florence Baptistery is the three sets of bronze doors with sculptures by Lorenzo Ghiberti; even Michelangelo himself calls them "The Gates of Paradise" for their extraordinary artistic value.

UFFIZI GALLERY |

To see some of the most precious Renaissance treasures preserved in Florence, you can head to the Uffizi Gallery, which is housed inside the Palazzo degli Uffizi. Here an endless amounts of paintings, including masterpieces by Giotto, Leonardo and Michelangelo, are found on the walls and ceilings as well.
The hallway is decorated with countless statues built centuries ago and preserved to this very day. The Uffizi Gallery remains to be one of the most popular tourist attractions of Florence due to its vastness and unique collection of artwork. |
BARGELLO MUSEUM |
Another museum that is worth visiting is the Bargello museum. Formally called the Bargello Palace, this art museum used to be a prison in the 13th century.
Now the Bargello houses one of the largest Italian collections of gothic and Renaissance sculptures dated back to the 14th century.
Many of these masterpieces were created by Michelangelo including a plaster copy of Donatello's David, which remains as Bargello's most famous statue. |
ACADEMY GALLERY |
The real Michelangelo's David can only be found in the place that was made especially for his masterpiece - the Academy Gallery. Founded in 1561, the "Galleria dell'Accademia" was the first academy of drawing in all of Europe. Several 15th and 16th century Florentine paintings are currently on display in the gallery. |

PONTE VECCHIO |

Those looking for outdoor wonders should check out the Ponte Vecchio and its spectacular views during the nighttime. This old Florence bridge, the only survived after the bombings of the II World Wars, is still the most romantic spot of the city.
